See what happens when we compare the effectiveness of Profile’s industry-leading erosion control products against Earthguard® Fiber Matrix solutions.

In this side-by-side comparison, EarthGuard® Fiber Matrix Pre-Packaged, EarthGuard® Fiber Matrix Liquid, ProMatrix™ Engineered Fiber Matrix™ and Flexterra® High Performance-Flexible Growth Medium® were tested at the independent Utah Water Research Laboratory at Utah State University, one of the world’s highest kinetic energy rainfall simulators used to evaluate soil erosion on slopes.

Each product was applied at the published manufacturer rates and tested on a 2.5H:1V slope with sandy loam soil. The lab simulated 5 inches (127 mm) of rainfall per hour for 60 minutes. The products were then tested for the amount of soil loss per acre.

Each product performed as follows: 

Profile’s ProMatrix EFM and Flexterra HP-FGM outperformed both of EarthGuard products in terms of soil loss per acre. Flexterra demonstrated an erosion control effectiveness of 99.98% and ProMatrix performed at 96%. EarthGuard’s products performed between 70 and 86%.

Flexterra HP-FGM was the only product to perform at the level of a Flexible Growth Medium, the highest-performing mulch category. ProMatrix EFM was the only product to perform at the level of a Bonded Fiber Matrix, while both EarthGuard products performed at the level of a Stabilized Mulch Matrix, the lowest-performing mulch category of the products tested.
